The World Health Organization (WHO) has designated the Digital Ethics Centre at Delft University of Technology in the Netherlands as a WHO Collaborating Centre on artificial intelligence (AI) for health governance. This new partnership aims to harness the potential of AI to revolutionize healthcare, improve lives, and advance well-being worldwide.
As AI continues to evolve, its potential to reshape healthcare is enormous. However, to ensure its benefits are realized responsibly, the WHO emphasizes the importance of collaborative governance, ethical frameworks, and evidence-based policies. The Digital Ethics Centre has long been a leader in incorporating ethical considerations into digital technology design, making it the ideal partner in this global initiative.
“AI has the power to transform health systems, but its implementation must be guided by ethical and equitable principles,” said Dr. Alain Labrique, Director of Digital Health and Innovation at the WHO. “With strong academic and technical partnerships, we aim to ensure AI technologies are safe, effective, and accessible for all.”
“WHO is committed to helping Member States plan, govern, and adopt responsible AI technologies,” Dr. Labrique added. “We are witnessing remarkable progress, with AI poised to transform health systems and support individuals on their health journeys.”
